Surviving College: Staying Ahead of the Game...

Class Attendance

It is true...attending classes will definitely improve your chances for academic success and a positive college experience.  It is a mistake to rely on other's to take notes for you so that you don't have to go to class.  People take notes in different ways and they may not take detailed notes on a concept your instructor is discussing because they are already familiar with the topic.  If you are not familiar with that topic you won't have the notes and you will be at a great disadvantage when it comes to studying for quizzes and exams.  There is no substitute for being present for the instructor's comments and examples.  They provide personal commentary and insights that you will not be able to obtain by reading the book.  In many cases references to these insights will be included in exam questions.
