library entry

DID YOU KNOW...

...That the Hammermill Library will have limited access and hours this summer? Because of the library main level renovation, access to the library and its services will only be available through the Weber Great Room entrance beginning on Monday, May 20. Disabled persons needing access to the library may call ext. 2234 between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday to make arrangements to access the library. Services like Interlibrary Loan will still be available, however, individuals returning and picking up items will need to go directly to the ILL office on the 3rd floor in suites 304 A/B.

Hammermill Library will be open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., closed on weekends and evenings. Collections will still be accessible and you will be able to check items out from the Greeter Desk located in the Weber Great Room.

Please expect the unexpected. The library main level is getting a transformational "facelift" and it will be amazing. Getting to that point, however, means you may find the power out and doors locked at times. You can always reach any of the staff by going to library.mercyhurst.edu. The chat lines, phones, texting, and access to the virtual library will always be available.

MERCYHURST LIBRARIANS ATTEND ACRL 2019

ACRL Conference floor

In the second week of April, four employees of the Mercyhurst University Libraries, two from Hammermill and two from Ridge, attended the 2019 Association of College and Research Libraries Conference in nearby Cleveland, Ohio. According to ALA News (American Library Association, of which ACRL is a division), over 4,000 people attended the event to visit exhibitor booths, meet with colleagues, talk to authors, attend programs, listen to speakers, etc. The attendees from Mercyhurst viewed numerous sessions on myriad topics such as Open Education Resources, how to better accommodate patrons with Autism Spectrum Disorder, serving diverse user communities, scholarly communication, and umpteen others. ACRL 2019's Conference Proceedings have been published here if you would like to know more.

Additionally, ACRL's national size makes their choice of venue a triumph for the Lake Erie region. Out-of-state attendees were greeted with excellent weather and a palatable taste of what the area has to offer.

WORK STUDY OF THE MONTH: TAYLOR DEVEY

WORK STUDY PERSON

Freshman student Taylor Devey is the Work Study of the Month for April 2019. She is majoring in both Criminal Justice and Accounting, and came to Mercyhurst from Strattanville, Pennsylvania. Her favorite thing about working at the Hammermill Library is its relatively quiet, "low key" atmosphere. She has one pet, a cat named Ed. After college she hopes to become a criminologist and help bring violent outlaws to justice.
