…That the Library has an extensive list of links to free Electronic Books sites? For example, The DOAB, or Directory of Open Access books, is open to all publishers who publish academic, peer-reviewed books in Open Access and should contain as many books as possible, provided that these publications are in Open Access and meet academic standards.
So don’t forget to share our Open Source eBooks page, located on the library website, to your students and peers as it increases access to a wealth of peer-reviewed and scholarly material for teaching and learning.

Politico is a news media outlet established in 2007 that focuses primarily on politics and policy content. Politico's main website Politico.com and its Politico Magazine are separate publications that are supported by advertising. Politico Pro is their version for professionals. It does not operate under the usual advertisement-supported model, but is a subscription product. Its intended readership includes government employees, analysts, journalists, and others who need critical information for their professions. Individual accounts are fairly expensive, but the Mercyhurst Libraries' institutional subscription allows Mercyhurst students and personnel access to Politico Pro's articles. However, this account cannot be used to leave user comments on stories or to customize your news feed; a personal subscription account is required for that functionality.
People who study or have careers in political science may find the resources useful overall, while others might benefit from using Politico Pro's industry areas, which serve content with a more specific focus. There are 15 of these, including Cybersecurity, Defense, Technology, Health Care, and more. For example, faculty and employees who wish to keep abreast of public policies on education might want to look at the Education section, naturally.

This issue’s Work Study of the Month is Patrick Arthur, a senior majoring in Intelligence Studies, who comes from Brunswick, Ohio. At the library, he often works on computer technology projects with Matt Shellenbarger, academic library computer support specialist. Shellenbarger says that Patrick “is always willing to go above and beyond to help with any task.” On campus Patrick is active with the Competitive Intelligence Club, and at home he has two dogs, both border collies. Patrick has not yet cemented any post-graduation plans, but regardless we wish him the best of luck.

We have recently expanded our fiction section, adding some new novels as well as additional seating. Some of our students have already found this area to be a quiet space for their studying and relaxation. Speaking of relaxation, FINALS are approaching! Come de-stress with us, now through finals week. Coloring pages and a puzzle table can help you cope with nervousness and worry.

In The Tao of Pooh, Hoff combines A.A. Milne’s Winnie-the-Pooh and the principles of Taoism to create a fun and easy read. It is a great book for anyone interested in getting more in touch with their spiritual side, without all of the intensity found in similar books. The book teaches that by living a more simpleminded life like Pooh, one can become closer to the world around them and ultimately closer to achieving inner peace. With Earth Day right around the corner, The Tao of Pooh tells readers to sit in the grass, listen to the birds, plant a garden and enjoy the shade of the trees rather than focus heavily on all the negativity of the world. If you like The Tao of Pooh, be sure to also check out the sequel, The Te of Piglet. Both books are available at Hammermill Library.
